Homework
Fourth graders can expect to spend approximately 40 minutes on homework a night.
Each night students are expected to read 20 - 30 minutes in their independent reading book with a goal of reading 140 minutes at home each week. It is important that students be reading the same book at home and school each day. As students finish their reading they need to take time to complete their reading log. Reading logs are due on Monday.
A math Home Link which is part of the Everyday Math program will be sent home four nights a week and is due the day after it is given. In addition it is important that students spend 5-10 minutes a night practicing math facts.
As part of the Sitton Spelling program students create lists of Words to Learn. Students are asked to practice the spelling of these words for a few minutes each day. Additional spelling activities will be assigned.
Students will be completing a Current Event report using an article of their choice. Each time this assignment is given a Scholastic News will be provided. Students may use an article from this source or an article from another source of their choice. Students will have a week to complete this assignment.
My hope is that students are able to complete homework independently. If you find your child is having difficulty completing a particular assignment please put the assignment away and let me know. I will spend some time with your child reviewing the assignment the next day
.
We all have times when completing homework isn't possible. Please jot me a note if this happens.
